Chuck Hall & Yevgeniy Postrekhin Win 2005 Club Championship

Date: 11/05/05

The 2005 Orlando Chess & Games Club Championship was held on Sat. November 5th. Eighteen people competed in the 5 round, rated event. Congratulations to experts Chuck Hall (2030) and Yevgeniy Postrekhin (2008) who shared first-place honors, and went undefeated with 4 points each (3 wins, 2 draws). In addition to recieving a $100 prize check, both Chuck and Yevgeniy earned the bragging rights to being the 2005 OCG Club Co-Champions.

David Zelner (1646), the OCG Club champ for the past two years (2003, 2004) was the only other player who did not lose a game. David finished with 3.5 points, including a draw against co-winner, Yevgeniy. David, along with Andrew Green (1746) and continually improving young Jonathan Chin (1530), who drew co-champion Chuck Hall in the first round, all finished with 3.5 points, sharing 3rd place, U-1800 and U-1600 prize money.

The U-1400 prize went to Roderic van Beuzekom (1008). Usually its Roderic's son, chess-prodigy Lucas, who is winning the prize money, but this time Roderic tied his son with a score of 3 points.

Eight year old, Brian Aach (671) scored 2.5 points to win the U-1200 prize. Congrats to Brian!

An honorable mention goes out to Nikki Spangler (758). In the first round, Nikki scored a draw against David Zelner, who not only is a former Club champion, but out-rates her by almost 900  rating points. Congratulations to Nikki on this acomplishment.

All in all the Club Championship was a fun event filled with lots of great games. We would like to thank everyone who came out to support our club!
