Francisco Guadalupe, Lucas Van Beuzekom win August OCG Open

Date: 08/25/04

The monthly Orlando Chess & Games Center Open was held this past Saturday, August the 20th. As the tournament ended and the results were tallied, it was no surprise to see expert Francisco Guadalupe (2004) at the top of the list with a perfect four points. Yet as the smoke cleared, many were surprised to see eight-year old sensation, Lucas Van Beuzekom (1486) also with four points, sharing first place with Gaudalupe. Both players had tremendous outings. Guadalupe soundly defeated last month's co-winner, Sarathi Ray (1986). Lucas, a tremendous up-and-coming talent, had yet another breakthrough tournament by defeating Andrew Green (1730) and Kevin Kane (1781), two very solid opponents. We congratulate both Lucas and Fransisco on their achievement. The tie for first was good enough to win them $128 each!

Sarathi Ray, Kevin Kane and Andrew Green all finished with 3 points to tie for third place.

Perico Arcedo (1440) also finished with 3 points, and was the outright winner of  the U-1600 prize.

Devin Wood (1393) and Catherine Zelner (1332) both finished with 2.5 points to share the U-1400 prize.

Hengyi Wu (1185) and Ricardo Iudice (1116) both finished with 2 points to share the U-1200 prize.

The next OCG Open will be held on Saturday, September 23rd.
