ABOUT US

Orlando Chess & Games Center was started by USCF Life Master Alex Zelner in 2002. It has grown to become a very active chess center where people of all ages come to learn and play the wonderful game of chess.

OCGC offers excellent scholastic programs for schools. If you are a teacher or an administrator, and would like to start a chess program for your school, please contact Alex Zelner.

Orlando Chess & Games Center offers a variety of chess activities.

Scholastic USCF open tournaments that consist of five rated games are scheduled on Saturdays and are held once a month. During those tournaments we aword trophies and medals to every participant. The scholastic tournament entry fee is $25 and $20 for OCG members.

Friday Fun Knights tournament is held most Friday nights. It is a beginer's tournament that usually consists of 20 to 30 participants. The tournament starts at 7:30pm and ends before 10pm. The chess clocks are set at 15 minutes per player. There are 4 games played with no elimination and everyone's effort is rewarded. Every player receives tickets. Each ticket is worth 50 cents in-store credit at Orlando Chess & Games Center. The winner of the game gets three tickets and the loser gets one. You can use them to buy pizza and drinks or save them up to buy your favorite chess set or a clock. The first and second place finishers recieve bonus prizes such as extra tickets, medals or trophies! There are players of every age and skill level. Our friendly stuff will teach students how to use a chess clock and introduce them to basic tournament rules. We sell pizza along with an assortment of snacks and drinks. The tournament entry fee is $15 and $10 for OCG members.

Quick-rated Swiss Madness Tournament is a quick a USCF quick-rated open tournament. Scholastic players are welcome to participate in 7 game Swiss system competition. Time control is 29 minutes/game. However there are no trophies or medals presented to the players. We give away up to $600.00 based on number of participants. Registration: 9:15am-9:45am. Game schedule:10-11, 12:30-1:30, 2:30-3:30, 4:30. Tournament entry fee is $30. OCG members pay $25.

OCG Open Tournament is a USCF rated open tournament geared towards our more serious players. 4 games are played in a Swiss system format. Time control is 90 minutes/game. We also give away up to $600.00 based on number of participants. Registration: 9:15am-9:45am. Game schedule: 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm. Tournament entry fee is $30. OCG members pay $25.

Simultaneous exibitions are scheduled several times a year featuring a Grand Master or a Master playing against as many as 30 people at the same time. This is an unique opportunity to meet top players in the World and play games with them. Entry fee is $15. OCG members pay $10.
